British Journalist Kiran Rai and Ralph Pereira spoke to Grammy and Oscar winning music composer, A R Rahman on becoming number #1 on the power list 2020 whilst completing their 100 most influential people in Asia in a span of 15 days. He talked about how he is dealing with quarantine, mental health issues and changing his name. He also opened up and discussed about feeling suicidal once many years ago.
A R Rahman was a co-music composer of the Lord and the Rings and music composer of Oscar winning film, Slum Dog Millionaire directed by Danny Boyle. Since then, he has become the number one most influential music composer of all time.
They suddenly felt a real sincerity when Mr Rahman spoke about how he mentors young talent across India including Chennai and how he stated, ‘I want the best for my country, and I will always help my people’.
Rai and Pereira have interviewed a variety of different influential people. This list is extensive from top Hindi singers such as Udit Naryan, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Zakir Hussian, Palak Muchhal, Shaan, Shafqat Amanata Ali, Jayanthi Veena, Kala Ramnath. Also, including top chefs such as Vikas Khanna, Sanjeev Kapoor, Vineet Bhatia, Ranveer Brah, Kunal Kumar and cricket sports athletes such as Wasim Akram, Shoaib Akhter, Shoaib Malik and tennis player, Sania Mirza.
Rai said, ‘it was a pleasure to discuss with A R Rahman about his life and I really was amazed how humble he was’.
Pereira said, ‘I could not believe some of the things he talked about, it was so unreal meeting someone as genuine as him’.
